Thomas Gerlach has always had a passion for film from an early age. Even though he never attended film school, that didn’t stop him from pursuing his dream of making films. He taught himself to write and, among other things, took part in the preliminary competition for Kleines Fernsehspiel (ZDF).
With Tierärztin Dr. Mertens and Polizeiruf 110 he was also able to gain experience as an assistant director. Own productions followed, which were screened internationally at renowned festivals such as the Myrtle Beach Int’l Film Festival and the Hoboken International Film Festival. For his first film production, Kuchenhimmel (short film), Thomas Gerlach won the Princeton Tiger Award at the 5th Nassau Film Festival.
